YEAR 5

We have begun Term 3 with such great enthusiasm and zeal that we didn’t even realize how we got through the first three weeks of this term. Students have been very punctual in completing their assigned homework tasks and I am very proud of their achievements.

In English, students have been learning about the structure and language features of an Explanation Text. They watched videos about why volcanoes erupt and they wrote their own explanations about the topic. They completed weekly comprehension and grammar activities on a regular basis. In Mathematics, they learnt about fractions, equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, changing fractions to decimals and vice versa.

Our Science unit has given students an opportunity to learn about the characteristics of living and non-living things. They drew and labelled diagrams to compare the structure of an animal cell and a plant cell. They did an experiment to study how water gets transported in plants. They used a celery stick and red dye to understand the process of water transportation.

In addition to the above mentioned lessons, students participated in their Health and PE, Art and Drama, Music and ICT lessons.

Thank you for your ongoing help at home in supporting the education of your children. If you have any issues or problems, please do not hesitate to book an appointment with me, I will try my best to resolve it.
